James Yates takes second victory at VIR South Course

The field at VIR Southern

James Yates took his second Shark Racing Jetta Club victory after winning from second on the grid in a hectic race.

Previous multiple race winner Steven Jones took second place just 0.476 seconds behind Yates, with Wyatt Gooden taking 3rd place on the podium after starting from the back of the grid.

Pole sitter Simon Trendell led most of the race until he retired on lap 14 after a spin. This left Yates in the lead, whilst Wyatt Gooden fought his way through the field.

The experienced racer made steady progress through the field, which was help with a crash between several cars at the first corner.

Julian Dyer and Nigel Morrison door to door

There were overtaking moves up and down the field, one of the most dramatic being between Nigel Morrison and Julian Dyer, who went door to door through the flat out left-hander at around 100mph.

Simon Trendell crossed the line first after 20 laps, and also took the fastest lap with a time of 1:18.346 on his third tour of the track.

Thank goodness for sim racing. Wouldn’t have fancied that in real life! Thanks for helping me round the corners Julian. ;)

Hope to be allowed to get to T2 next time before getting spun. Was fun otherwise :D
